Creating an Idea, Block by Block

For this weeks assignment I ended up making an interesting choice for what I wanted to do. Initially I wanted to model a car in Maya, texture it, and make it look very nice. However, I ran into problems with my program crashing a lot, and it started to feel like a chore, and my goal for the assignment was to have fun. Though I love modeling things, I decided to change my idea to something more fun, and more limiting. I chose Minecraft as my creative platform and decided to just create a nice, detailed and decorated house.

I first started out with a 30 X 30 area, which I decided to be my building limits. I considered the idea of fish bowling by creating this area without considering what I would want to put in it. After that, I just started creating from my mind. I built up the building and filled in the insides with various rooms.

Block by block, I made this house and it eventually came together as a living, breathing home, which I thoroughly enjoyed building.

Class Recap; Egg Projects

Today in class was a very interesting day. I enjoyed seeing what everyone else did for their projects with the egg. It was very interesting hearing other peoples experiences with the project, and their mind process for doing what they did. One egg project that stuck out to me was the vials, with the different substance from birds in it, including the egg. Something about that idea I found interesting though I can't quite put my finger on it. Another one I thought was cool was the egg animal, named Wolfie. Overall class today was very interesting and I can't wait until the next one to see what everyone does for their next project.

Egg Candle

Egg candle being lit.
After class last Monday, we were all given one egg, to make something out of. I thought of many ideas right away, and the one that sounded the most interesting to me was a egg candle. Over my days off during the week I went to Hobby Lobby and bought wax crystals and some other materials and I created a candle that had a white part, and yolk part inside of the egg out of wax which created a candle that looked like a whole real egg. My girlfriend's brother saw it and he initially thought that I had boiled the egg which it was actually wax in the middle. Overall I'm happy with how this project turned out.

I used the other half of the egg as a cover to put out the candle.

This week I found class to be very exciting and informative. I didn't know what to expect and I still don't to a certain extent but I have been wanting a class for awhile that lets me get really creative. I expect this class to be very refreshing for me, because the last few semesters all I've done is grind out projects for teachers. I hope to come out of this course as a more creative person, and with that said I'm really looking forward to the future of this class.
